Wilma Imogene (West) Williams, age 93 departed this life on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at her home after battling dementia for eight years.
Wilma was born March 24, 1931 to Caster E. and Ina Mae (Pritchard) West. She was the fourth in line of twelve siblings. She joined hands with Donald "Don" Clay Williams on July 4, 1948 in Jamestown, KY where she was told to become a year older before she got upstairs at the courthouse. They moved to the Pall Mall community where they have lived for 76 years and were faithful members of the Wolf River Methodist Church. Wilma helped raise three children by working at Sutton Shirt Factory in Byrdstown, TN until it started closing. She then worked at the shirt factory in Jamestown, TN. She took care of her grandkids for a while then returned to work at Mark Twain Apparel in Jamestown, TN until its closing. Wilma loved to garden and take care of her many flowers including going wildflower hunting. You would most always find a gnome or red bird garden ornament in her flower beds or just sitting around in the yard. Wilma received her GED in 1988 at the age of 57. She is a breast cancer survivor and a fighter of dementia for the last eight years. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
She was survived by (3) children: Patricia Ann Smith-Jones (Joe), Willetta Sue Smith, Donald "Donnie" Clay Williams Jr. (Janice); (5) grandchildren: Melinda Sue Smith, Jennifer Louise Lively (John), Donald Paul Smith (Erin), Melanie Dawn Lewallen, Donald Joseph Williams; (8) great-grandchildren: Pamela Crisp (Dylan), Dylan Smith, John Michael Lively, Braden Lewallen, Elizabeth "Beth" Lively, Logan Lewallen, Ryan Lewallen, Griffith "Bud" Smith; (1) sister: Betty Sue Beaty (Guy Dale), (1) brother: James L. West (Cheryl); (2) sisters-in-law: Louise West, Georgia DeGeorge; (1) brother-in-law: Steven "Zeb" Qualls; caregiver: Brenda Williams. Also survived by nephews, nieces, church family and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by husband: Donald Clay Williams; parents: Caster and Ina Mae West; grandson: Michael Paul Smith; (4) sisters: Alma (Walter) Lowrey, Allene (Ransome) Clark, Georgia Mae Qualls, Joyce (Ed) Mathis; (5) brothers: Kirby, Hershel (Stella), Junior, Jay (Illene), Jack (Nancy) West.
Funeral services were be held Sunday, September 22, 2024 at 3:00 PM from Wolf River Methodist Church, with Rev. Alan Dixon and Jodi Hancock speaking. The burial was in Pritchard Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Donald Paul Smith, Donald Joseph Williams, Dylan Glen Smith, Braden Clay Lewallen, Logan Marc Lewallen, Ryan Edward Lewallen, Donald Griffith "Bud" Smith.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were Mark Smith and Angie Lewallen.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 12:00 PM until service at 3:00 PM at Wolf River Methodist Church.
