Rex Wayne Tompkins, age 69 of Byrdstown, TN passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at his residence.
He was born June 17, 1954 in Byrdstown, TN to Joseph Denver Tompkins and Wanda Willadean (Rich) Tompkins. He was a member of Red Hill Church of Christ, an alderman for the City of Byrdstown, a former mayor of Byrdstown, a former custodian at Pickett County High School, and a former factory employee at Wrangler Boot Company. He loved Pickett County Basketball.
Rex was survived by (1) niece: Robin Nolze and husband: Randy; (2) great-nieces: Chloe Guffey and husband: Zack, Ella Rose Nolze; (3) great-nephews: John Wilder Martin, Owen Garrett Martin and Quade Martin. Also survived by his fur baby: Buddy, cousins, other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Denver and Wanda Tompkins; (2) brothers: Dale Tompkins and Bill Tompkins; (3) aunts: Fonzie, Dorothy and Velma; (6) uncles: Dennis, Glenn, Robert, Bethel, Gene and Newell.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 2:00 PM from Pickett County High School gymnasium with Sam Gibson, John B. Mullinix, Dale Bouldin and Dr. Larry Mason speaking. The burial was in Clark Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were John Wilder Martin, Owen Garrett Martin, Quade Martin, Eric Pierce, Nicky Rich, Stacy Evans and Eric Mitchell.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were City of Byrdstown's mayor, recorder, aldermen, alderwoman, employees; and Nathan Groce.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 9:00 AM until service time at 2:00 PM at Pickett County High School gymnasium.
