James 'J.D.' Pritchett

     James Devoid Pritchett, better known as ‘J.D.’, age 90 of Byrdstown, TN passed away Sunday, February 23, 2025 at Pickett Care and Rehab.

     He was born January 8, 1935 in Little Crab, TN to Wheeler Manson Pritchett, Sr. and Mary Etter (Pennycuff) Pritchett. He attended Bethsaida Christian Church and was a retired school bus driver and block layer. J.D. was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1956 until 1960. He was a graduate of the Pickett County High School Class of 1968. J.D. loved to fish, garden and be on his tractor. He shared the same birthday as Elvis, therefore he liked to collect Elvis memorabilia.

     J.D. was survived by his wife, Jewell (Winningham) Pritchett, whom he married on October 22, 1960; (3) sons: Dwayne Pritchett (Theresa), David Pritchett, Jackie Pritchett (Cyndi); (6) grandchildren: Jarah Waites (Donovan), Tyler Pritchett (Kaylee), Cade Pritchett (Kate), Courtney Pritchett, Abigail Pritchett, Cayce Pritchett; (4) great-grandchildren: Maylee Waites, William Waites, Sandie Pritchett and Leiah-Anne Pritchett; (2) sister-in-laws: Kay Rains (Bob) and Janice Poore. Also survived by other family members and friends.

     He was preceded in death by his parents: Wheeler and Mary Pritchett; (5) sisters: Martha Buck, Fonza ‘Black Eyes’ Hunt, Stella Hayes, Jessie Matthews and Vestie Davis; (2) brothers: William ‘Bill’ Pritchett and Wheeler ‘Junior’ Pritchett.

     Funeral services were held Friday, February 28, 2025 at 2:00 PM from Brown Funeral Chapel with Bro. Daniel Masiongale and Bro. Eric Dillon officiating. The burial was in Winningham Family Cemetery. Military honors were provided at the graveside.

     Serving as pallbearers were Tyler Pritchett, Cade Pritchett, Devin Storie, Dustin Garrett, Trent Martin and Luke Garrett.

     The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Brown Funeral Chapel.
