Cecil Dowdy

     Cecil S.P. Dowdy, age 91 of Byrdstown, TN passed away Sunday, June 16, 2024 at his residence.

     He was born May 27, 1933 in Byrdstown, TN to Shirdy P. Dowdy and Mary Ann (Pittman) Dowdy. He was a retired U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Korea War, a farmer and active in the Senior Center for 30 years. 

     Cecil was survived by (2) daughters: Lori Tallent, Lynn Johnson and husband: Wayne; (1) son: Larry Dowdy and wife: Tricia; (3) grandchildren: Daniel (Magan) Hunter, Jessica (Neli) Conner, and Tyler Dowdy; (4) great-grandchildren:Kara May Hunter, Maxton Hunter, Dayton Hunter and Woodrow Conner; (2) sisters: Phyllis Whitt, Joretta Jones; (1) brother: Lonzie Dowdy and wife: Diana. Also survived by other family members and friends.

     He was preceded in death by his parents: Shirdy and Mary Dowdy; wife: Martha "Marty" Dowdy; (1) grandchild: Brian Guffey; (4) sisters: Kay Leslie, Clara Boyer, Edna Cross and Loxie Dowdy; (2) brothers: Virgil Dowdy and Hershel Dowdy. 

     Funeral services were held Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 2:00 PM from Brown Funeral Chapel with Nick Catron speaking. The burial was in Edgefield Cemetery with military honors provided by Hull-York DAV Chapter 5 and American Legion Post 137.

     Serving as pallbearers were Tyler Dowdy, Neli Conner, James Garrett, Justin Garrett, Robert Jones and Daniel Hunter.

     The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Brown Funeral Chapel.

      Memorial contributions in memory of Cecil, can be made to the Byrdstown Senior Center.
