Ray E. Rains, 84, of Franklin, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on March 27, 2024. He was born on December 25, 1939, in Byrdstown.
Ray was hard working, extraordinarily kind and generous. He was a man of integrity, admired and beloved by all who knew him. He loved playing cards with friends and family, studying Scripture, following University of Tennessee sports, gardening and fishing on Dale Hollow Lake.
Ray had a distinguished career in construction and served as a Vice President at Hardaway in Nashville until his retirement in 2006. He was ordained as a deacon at First Baptist Church Byrdstown and served several churches throughout his life.
Ray is survived by his wife, Janice Hassler Rains, his daughters Robin Rains and Rebecca (T.C.) Staton; grandsons Josh (Jessica), Tyler (Kirsten), and Travis (Katie) Staton; and great-grandchildren Ruthie, Jack, Hannah, Levi, Hank, Simon, Amos, Teddy, and Margot Staton; sisters Janice (Gerald) Huddleston, Betty (Jim) Hyden, Brenda Breeding, and brother Bobby (Kay) Rains among other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Ethel Rains and brother Roger (Sharon) Rains.
Ray's life will be celebrated at First Baptist Church Byrdstown on Friday, April 19th, with visitation at 10 am and a memorial service at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to 24-7 Prayer USA (www.24-7prayerusa.com/give) in Ray's honor.
