Hollis Smith

     Walter Hollis Smith, age 89 of Byrdstown, TN passed away Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

     He was born February 7, 1934 in Livingston, TN to Walter Asby Smith and Mary Etter (Smith) Smith. He was a member of Green Grove Missionary Baptist Church, a U.S. Army veteran serving in Germany, a Mason, a former plant manager at Sutton Shirt Factory and a farmer.  

     Hollis was survived by his wife: Nelda Gay (Boils) Smith; (3) sons: Barry H. Smith and wife: Lesli, Brent Smith and wife: Heather, Bryant 'Yogi' Smith and companion: Cynthia; (5) grandchildren: Brandi Wolfram, Blake Smith, Elly Smith, Tucker Smith and Kanon Smith; (5) great-grandchildren; (1) sister: Elise Ledbetter. Also survived by other family members and friends. 

     He was preceded in death by his parents: Walter and Mary Smith; daughter-in-law: Kim Smith; (3) brothers: Odell Smith, Kermit Smith and Doyle Smith; (3) sisters: Marchie Garrett, Junie Sells and Sara Taylor. 

     Funeral services were held Sunday, December 31, 2023 at 2:00 PM from Brown Funeral Chapel with Barry H. Smith, Bro. Jordan Lockridge, Bro. Nick Catron and Bro. Joe Summers officiating. The burial was in Smyrna Cemetery with military honors provided by Hull-York Chapter 5 DAV.

     Serving as pallbearers were Clois Brown, Jason Garrett, Marty Owens, Tony Boils, Mike Morgan, Devin Rector, Kent Shearer and Barry Bush. 

     Serving as honorary pallbearers were Bud Owens, Jim Gough, Paul Hill, Gary Smith, Jerry Sells, Jack Winningham, Ken Riddle, Benton Lee, Dale Rector, Jimmy Sells, Larry White, Jeff Rich, Harold Cooksey, Brad Beaver and Bedford Mathews.

     The family will receive friends Saturday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Brown Funeral Chapel.
